Embracing Change – “Leveraging Your Influence for Positive Impact”

Hello Again Igniters!

Change is a constant companion on our life's journey presenting us with new challenges, opportunities, and perspectives. Whether it's in our personal lives or within our organizations, embracing change can often feel like an uphill battle, as we grapple with uncertainty and disruption over familiarity and stability. Spencer Johnson MD. offers a simple story on our reaction to change and the lessons we can learn in “Who moved my cheese” (YouTube video) .

In this issue, we delve into understanding our relationship with change and how you can embrace it more effectively.

The Insight Igniter fortnightly coaching question for March 25th, 2024

“What aspects of the change can you support?"

The power of this question comes from a shift in mindset encouraging you to become an active owner of unfolding change.

Empowerment

By identifying opportunities where you can contribute positively to the process, you feel more empowered and motivated to actively engage with the change rather than feeling overwhelmed or helpless. You set yourself on a path from being at the mercy of change to actively shaping it.

Clarity

In my experience, the greatest impact from change is on relationship dynamics, whether in personal or professional contexts. As you gain clarity and insight into how the change impacts your relationships with others, you can identify potential challenges and opportunities for growth.

Focus

You are encouraged to direct your energy towards proactive engagement rather than passive resistance. By exploring the aspects of change through probing questions, you can align your focus with specific objectives and values ensuring your efforts are directed towards meaningful outcomes.

To wrap up this issue of the Insight Igniter I offer you an exercise I have used with clients as they face change and set them on a positive trajectory:

1.      Consider an upcoming or ongoing change in your life. What is it?

2.     Imagine this change unfolding in the most positive way possible. What would that look like?

3.      Now, within this positive scenario, what elements of the change can you actively get behind? (e.g., new skills, increased responsibility, fresh challenges)

4.     How can you leverage your strengths and values to support these positive aspects?

Remember, change is inevitable, but how you navigate it is a choice.  By identifying the aspects you can support, you become a co-creator of your own positive transformation.

Until next issue.

Best,

Stefan
